It is often useful to search for an object using criteria such as the date the object was created or modified, the owner of the object, and what type of object it is. This type of search is called an Advanced search.
Objects you can search for include:
Folders
Reports
Report Services documents
HTML documents
Filters
Prompts
Templates
Custom groups
Shortcuts
Type the name of the report, document,
filter, prompt, or other object in the Search
field at the top of the page.
Click the Submit
Search icon . The results of the search are displayed.
Click the Advanced
link on the right. The Advanced Search page is displayed.
Note: To return to a simple search, click Simple at the right of the Search
field.
To search for an object by name, type the name in the Search For field. For tips to search for objects effectively, as well as information on using wildcards to search, see Using efficient search syntax.
You can specify how the text in the Search For field is used to search for objects. For example, if you type east in the Search For field, you can search for objects with names that begin with the word east, such as Eastern. To specify how to search for an object, select an option from the drop-down list below the Search For field. The options are:
Contains: Search for an object that contains the search text. For example, if you type sal in the Search For field, Dollar Sales and Salary are both displayed.
Exactly: Search for an object that matches the search text exactly. For example, if you type South in the Search For field, South is displayed, but not Southeast or Southwest.
Begins with: Search for an object that begins with the search text. For example, if you type Revenue in the Search For field, Revenue is displayed, but not Gross Revenue.
Ends with: Search for an object that ends with the search text. For example, if you type Profit in the Search For field, Net Profit is displayed, but not Profit Margin.
To search for an object in a specific folder, select an option under Location. The options are:
In all folders: Search for all objects, regardless of the folder in which they are located.
Only inside folder Shared Reports: Search only for objects inside the Shared Reports folder.
Only inside folder My Reports: Search only for objects inside the My Reports folder.
To specify the type of object to search for, such as reports (including data mart reports), documents, and folders, select the object types you want to search for under Object type. You can include multiple object types in your search.
You can search for objects that were created or modified during a certain time period. Do one of the following:
To search for an object created or modified at any time, select the Find all objects option.
To search for an object created or modified at a specific time, select the Find all objects created option.
From the first drop-down list, select one of the following:
To search for an object created at a specific time, select Created from the drop-down list.
To search for an object modified at a specific time, select Modified from the drop-down list.
To search for an object created during a specific unit of time, select the During the previous option. Type a number in the field, then select the unit from the drop-down list. For example, to search for objects created in the last three years, type 3 in the field and select Year(s) from the drop-down list.
To search for an object created between two specified dates, select the Between option, then select the two dates from the calendar.
To search for an object created by a specific user, select one of the following:
Created only by me: Search for objects created only by the user who is currently logged in.
Created by any user: Search for objects created by anyone in the project.
To search for an object that contain specific text in its description, type the text in the Description includes field.
By default,
shortcut
objects are not included in the search results, but their targets
are. To include shortcut objects in the search, clear the Resolve
shortcuts to target objects check box.
For example, a project contains the Regional Revenue report, and two
shortcuts to the report, one named Regional Sales and one named Regional
Revenue Shortcut. If you search for objects named Regional Sales and:
Resolve shortcuts to target objects is selected, both the shortcut name and the target name (the original report name) of shortcuts are checked against the search term. The Regional Revenue Shortcut is not returned in the search results because neither its shortcut name nor its target name matches the search term. Although the shortcut name of Regional Sales matches the search term, its target name, Regional Revenue, does not match, so this shortcut is not returned in the search results, either.
Resolve shortcuts to target objects is cleared, the shortcuts are treated as independent objects, and only the shortcut names are compared with the search term. The Regional Sales shortcut is returned in the search results. Neither the Regional Revenue report nor Regional Revenue Shortcut is returned, because their names do not match the search term.
Click Search. The results of your search are displayed.
